The League Cup took centre stage over the weekend with St Dogmaels and New Quay clinching their semi-final places at the expense of Felinfach and Aberaeron respectively.
Despite their opponents putting up a spirited display the Saints had little difficulty in marching into the last four. Johnny James led the way with four goals and there was a hat-trick from Steve Williams before Dafydd George comfortably rounded it off.
In a game that did not live up to expectation holders Aberaeron were dumped out of the competition by their near neighbours who, on the balance of play deserved their victory.
Left sided player Gareth Evans gave the visitors a two goal advantage before Steffan Gruffudd pulled one back. Bryn Evans added the visitors' third before Gruffudd crowned a tireless display with a deserved second which, in the end did not prove enough.
In the League Lampeter went to town against neighbours Llanybydder. Sam Gudgeon grabbed four and there were a couple each for Dai Morgan, Luke Parish and James Gudgeon.
In the relegation zone there were crucial wins for Dewi Stars and Aberporth. The Stars notched a good win at Parc Troedyrhiw against Ffostrasol with Dewi Sion Evans grabbing their late winner whilst at Parcllyn Aberporth edged out fellow strugglers Llandysul by the odd goal in three.
In the third round of Cwpan Ceredigion Cardigan gained a comfortable home win against Talybont. Two goals from Simon Jones and a third from Alun Williams put them on course for the last eight with Stan Penfold replying for the visitors. |
